Tips on Making Mindful Movement on the Platform.

Quote of the month:
"People may not remember what you said, but they're more likely to remember what they saw... when and where you said it."

Unknown

Have you ever watched a speaker appear glued down to one spot on the platform?

On the other hand, have you almost suffered from whiplash by watching a speaker pace nonstop across the platform?

Do you realize that although you spend time preparing the content of your speech or presentation, you need to spend time working out the delivery, which includes choreographing your 'script' on the platform?

Phrasing helps with Staging!

create different scenes with characters, dialogue, and actions in the listeners' minds which they can see - it helps them remember and differentiate from one event/story/point to another; when you refer to something you have already said, just call it back by pointing to the spot where you spoke about it

create a timeline: the past from the present to the future

"If you could have seen me four months ago, you would have seen ..." PAST location
"Right at this moment, I ..." PRESENT location
"Now forward 3 years..." "And over the next 2 decades, I..." Move from PAST to PRESENT or PRESENT to FUTURE locations
"In the future, I would like to move towards..." Point or move to the FUTURE location

emphasize point/message - Move to the power position - STOP and remain there: upfront and centre (pause, lower your voice, slow down when giving your power statement)

demonstrate visual transitions from one point/story to the next

"On the other hand..."
"Having said that, there is another point..."
"Similarly, this other story…"
Where you move in these cases are irrelevant; you simply need to visually show a transition

differentiate the bad from the good

"If you don't_______, then you will_______" Bad/negative location

"On the other hand, if you take heed and ________, you will experience________" Good/positive location

demonstrate traveling/action words - they give you a valid reason to move.

"I walked to my car and ... "
"1 saw the chair across the room and collapsed"
"I boldly took a few steps forward."
Remember people may not remember what you say, but they will remember what they see when and where you said it.

I challenge you to move with purpose on the platform. Do not remain glued to one spot and do not wander aimlessly. When you move, move "MINDFULLY."

I invite you to join me next month, when we discuss the letter K in CREATING KILLER KEYNOTES.
